Healthcare is one of the sub-themes of the Public Relations Volunteerism campaign 2011. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to promote and reinforce the students’ awareness about the concept of volunteerism and encourage them to be involved into voluntary work. As such, the important message of the Healthcare Volunteerism group: Healthcare Volunteers Work for Change! Hence, the Healthcare volunteers lend a helping hand at Tronoh Mines New Village which located in Perak. Its new village had been selected due to it lacks proper facilities such as hospital, clinic, etc as most of the villagers have to travel to the General Hospital located in Ipoh, should they require a medical check-up. Therefore, for the campaign, Healthcare volunteers will be focus mainly on the voluntary works in improving the quality of life for the villagers by providing assistance and healthcare services such as medical check-ups, healthcare talks, etc.
Healthcare Group’s objectives
- To involve at least 1500 Utarians participating in all the events and activities of the campaign throughout the duration of 21st of March 2011 to 26th of March 2011.
- To reinforces the concept of volunteerism as to motivate the Utarans in behavior change by implementing events and activities.
- To increase the healthcare knowledge of Tronoh Mines villagers.
On-campus events
- Blood Donation Drive ( 21st of March 2011 to 25th of March 2011)
- Volunteers Employment ( 22nd of March 2011 to 24th of March 2011)
- Volunteers Work for Change exhibition themed “Mystery Tunnel”( 22nd of March 2011 to 24th of March 2011)
Outreach activities at Tronoh Mines New Village
- Morning exercises for kids.
- Talk session for kids about the appropriate way of brushing teeth.
- Morning exercises for elderly.
-Tai chi session and Praise dance session.
- Medical check-up (Klinik Kesihatan Kampar).
- Point massage and Traditional Chinese medical check-up.
- Healthcare talk for elderly about the prevention from the diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, etc.
- Board game session.
-Lego, Snake board game and chest.
- Demonstration of healthy cooking.
