DIY Workshop: Day 1 (7 April 2011)

On 7 April 2011, we kickstarted our DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Workshops, where participants gathered to hand-make certain items to be gifted to the villagers of Tronoh Mines. 

For the morning session, more than 30 students turned up to create suku kata (Malay: syllable) cards for the primary school children of Tronoh Mines. They had to cut the printed paper, paste them onto a manila card and seal it in a plastic cover. A total of 30 sets were made throughout the day. 

Participants walked away with free Lost World of Tambun discount vouchers, courtesy of Sunway City Ipoh.

At 1pm, another more exciting session commenced. Students had the hands-on experience of making shoe racks out of recycled wood planks sponsored by the Majlis Daerah Kampar.

Participants were busy polishing the wooden planks and hammering them into shape before putting on the final touches of applying shellac. The lively atmosphere attracted much attention; a few lecturers also dropped by to lend their helping hands.

The Winning Entry of Blogging Competition

Just a favor, make the world harmony and perfect

Volunteerism should be existed whenever there is someone whose need helps. But when someone suffered, how many people willing to help them out? When I was 14 years old, I might not will to help them because it is nothing to do with my life. If it is questioning me when I’m 17 years old, I might be willing to help them out because I believe that when I pay out something now, I might have someone to help me when I get  trouble in future. For a 20 years old guy, I realized that there have too many cheat case or fake charity society around us. There is harder for us to make charity, and there has someone who really need helps may not be able to get it, the donation from society to them. Government should do something to prevent this kind of phenomena continuing spread all around the social.

I’m a freak guy, and it is an undeniable fact. Sometimes, when I’m taking public transportation to somewhere, I’m not willing to sit down and stand there although there might be a long journey. I believe that there will be have someone who more needed the seat than me and I don’t want to act like I’m a kind person in front of public. I can’t take it when the person who taking my seat watching me and others talking about me although it is a positive view. The only thing I can do is said ‘you’re welcome’ and leave off the place.

I try to be nobody in my live. I am willing to contribute something without knowing by anyone. Not because I’m humble but is I’m who I’m, a introversion guy. I have passion to make charity when I was young after visiting to the charity organization center and knowing there have much people are poor and unlucky, they need our helps. But when come to elder, I’ forgetting the memorable happy moment when my friends and I visiting charity organization center and helps them out. I become more realistic and I busy to get the flying color result, planning for my future careers life. My life is full of academic and future career planning and maybe I just forget to helps them who in suffered.

Sometimes, even a word or conversation is mean something to them. Donation, not only in kind of money and matter, but also can encourage them to stay strong in their life. Maybe having a conversation with them just a few minutes, but it may be the key to encourage them become brave and stronger. Maybe I’m too emphasis on this, but I’ll always believe the power of word, conversation from somebody can influence others. Be brave to say something, praise someone that they deserved, it may make the world become perfect, even maybe just a slightly different. 

I believe that everyone can be the one to make the world become perfect if they are willing to contribute something, it can be anything, as long it is helping the one whose need helps, and I believe that the anything could be something to them. So, don’t hesitate anymore, join the volunteerism team today before you regret or the chance gone.

Mural Painting (1 April 2011)

On 1 April 2011, a few of our group members, along with Wong Fong Wee, winner of the Mural Design Competition, went to SJK (C) Sin Min, Tronoh Mines, to paint the mural on one of the walls in the primary school.

Prize-giving ceremony & activities (31 March 2011)

A Mural Design Competition and a Blogging Competition was held on-campus by the Environment subgroup from 14-24 March 2011. After the winners were determined, a prize-giving ceremony as well as audience interactive activities were held on 31 March 2011 in Cafeteria C, UTAR Kampar campus.
